10 Year Anniverary

Celebrating 10 YearsIt was 10 years ago last month that Phacil's Co-Founders, Raf Collado and Sascha Mornell, started Phacil.  Their philosophy was simple: to bring a commercial industry perspective to government customers' problems and focus on rapid delivery of solutions to those problems.  Raf and Sascha have imbued this customer-centric philosophy throughout every level of the organization, which has become a key differentiator and contributor to Phacil's success.  Nearly 30 contracts and 400 employees later, Phacil continues to fervently adhere to the same philosophy that made it a successful government contractor.

SaschaIn celebration of this success and significant milestone, we recently honored the Company and its Co-founders at the Company's corporate locations in San Francisco, CA and Arlington, VA.  Although the Co-Founders often attribute the success of the Company to its employees, Phacil would not exist as it does today without Raf and Sascha's vision and perseverance to see through the first 10 years.  So the next time you see Raf or Sascha, please offer them a warm congratulations on the Company's 10 year milestone!

USDA Win

USDAAfter just a few months of beginning work on its first United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) contract, Phacil has proven itself to USDA as a valuable provider of information technology services.  This month, Phacil began its 3rd task order with USDA performing IT services and will have nearly 50 employees working on a USDA contract.  Phacil's employees on this new contract in Kansas City, MO will provide services to support the Information Technology Services Division's Performance Testing and Analysis, which will include:  planning, designing, conducting and evaluating performance tests of applications; optimizing and/or stabilizing application performance; technical analysis of application code, platform, database, network and architectures; performance test design and execution; detailed test analysis and recommendations; and configuration management.  If all option years are exercised on this task order with the USDA's Farm Services Agency (FSA), it has a performance period of up to 5 years.  USDA has been a great customer.  We look forward to continue assisting them with swift and cost effective solutions to their challenges.

GSA Alliant SBThe USDA FSA task order was competed through the GSA Alliant Small Business vehicle.  For more information about GSA Alliant Small Business, click here.

DHS Mentor-Protégé Program

Phacil as MentorIt was only a few years ago that Phacil became a protégé to Boeing and Cherokee Information Systems in government Mentor-Protégé programs. In April, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization paired Phacil with Central Research, Inc, but this time with Phacil as a mentor! As a mentor, Phacil will assist with business and technical developmental expertise, as well as no-cost training, management guidance, use of its facilities, and other assistance agreed upon during the course of the Mentor-Protégé relationship. As a protégé graduate, we look forward to mentoring Central Research as well as other protégés in the future!

Phacil's Circle of Excellence

Commendations & Promotions

The Pursuit of ExcellencePhacil employees have executed phenomenally for customers the last three months - over 28% of Phacil employees received customer commendations!!  In the month of March alone, 61 employees who work directly on a contract received commendations from customers.  As always, Phacil rewards employees who receive commendations with gift cards or similar items.  Some examples that warranted commendations follow below.

GSA - Hawaii

After the March tsunami in Japan, the GSA Hawaii Clerical and Warehouse team members did an outstanding job supporting the U.S. Navy by responding within 2 hours to select, pull, warehouse and load over 20 pallets of material at a value of $100,000.  According to the customer, "The effort was spectacular, a last minute request from the U.S. Navy at Pearl Harbor in support of the tsunami was met by the Phacil staff in a highly efficient, competent and very professional manner."

MDA - Alabama and National Capital Region

On April 27, severe storms, including 21 tornadoes passed through northern Alabama, causing power outages to over 500,000 customers.  This included losing power to the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL where 22 servers support a vital MDA web portal (UMKO).  Two of our engineers, Chris G and Rod R, in the National Capital Region (NCR) were instrumental in keeping the UMKO up and running. They worked tirelessly during the early hours of April 28th to ensure the UMKO functioned properly so that the over 12,000 users of the Portal were able to perform their daily Portal functions with little or no impact.  For the next six days, the entire Phacil Huntsville Team either did not have power at their homes to work remotely or at the MDA offices before they could assist in the Portal maintenance efforts. Chris and Rod continued to maintain operations of the Portal remotely, and kept the Portal availability at 100%. Their individual and combined efforts were keeping with "The Phacil Commitment" to provide exceptional service to our customers while exceeding their expectations.

USDA - Maryland

New hire, John G, of USDA IDB, has been doing an outstanding job executing ferociously since starting with Phacil in February.  John was scheduled to have a Friday off since he was to work maintenance all day Saturday.  Despite arriving home at 3:00 AM Friday from a trip to Kansas City, John ended up spending most of Friday responding to customer questions. This included handling a teleconference with the customer. Then, on Saturday John proceeded to put in a 12 hour day, taking the lead among USDA personnel to ensure that nearly 200 servers were successfully patched.  John's efforts impressed the customer who stated, "John's expertise and dedication have undoubtedly taken a potentially disastrous scenario and made it a feather in the cap...."

MDA - Alabama

Jon A on the MDA WISS contract has been wowing the customer.  Without direction or a requirement from the Customer, Jon took the initiative to develop a custom computer code solution that will save hundreds of hours of work for fellow WISS engineering Team members.  The custom solution Jon created contains multiple lines of code and is quite complex.  This single script has resulted in a more efficient process to complete required site collection migrations, alleviating the need for an Application Technologist to dedicate approximately 4-6 hours to a single migration.  Overall, this seemingly simple act has saved the engineering team around 20-30 hours of time to this point.  The solution is also being discussed in SharePoint industry circles as the automation of migrating site collections has continued to be an unresolved issue...until now.

We thank customers for recognizing Phacil employees!"Great Job" and "Thank You" to the GSA Hawaii team, Chris G, Rod R, John G, Jon A, and all others who received a commendation in the last three months!  We also thank our customers who take the time and effort to recognize Phacil employees!

If you would like to recognize a Phacil employee for doing a great job, please contact the Phacil Program Manager or Sr. Program Manager on your contract.
